Synopsis:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind

Review:

Overall, this book was really good (obviously, I gave it 4/5 stars). At first, it was a little hard to get into. You are thrust into the world of the Gladers just like Thomas, where all the words and terms are really confusing. After a while, you figure out the meaning of the words and how they are used, just like Thomas. It provided a really cool authentic feeling that you are feeling what the character is feeling that I haven't experienced in many books before.

The book really picks up about a quarter of the way through. I couldn't put it down for long. It's an amazing mystery trying to figure out what the maze is all about and how everyone got there. It's full of twists and turns which, mixed with the really short chapters, just make you want to keep reading. There are a lot of action scenes that are very well described (to where my heart pounds just from reading it).

It's a great book (one of my favorite dystopian books so far if I must say) and I can't wait to read the second one :)
